If I didn’t know better
I would say we have 3 stages
to watching a sunset
catching
the breath hiccups
clouds part for the dear ending rays
grass glistens
but not like the morning’s dewy coat
this one is dusty
grizzled from the day
and accepting an end
holding
you want to embrace the soft colors
they blanket the sky through the mind
a momentary rest
between day‘s lights and star’s grazing
to sit, to stand
to do absolutely nothing as she wanes
is irrevocably necessary
letting go
the sun dips
teasing the hills she created only a clock ago
these last few breaths open the sky wide
opening and inviting the night
withdrawing efforts of whispy pinks knowing she tried
because with every set
there is a rise
